General Description:
A.M.A. was created to foster mutual support among women with different education levels, economic standing, language, ethnicity, religion and civil status. Our mission is to empower women through cooperative action, because we believe that the best way to harvest their potential is by creating opportunities. We don’t see our work as a job, but rather as a calling to encourage social participation and awareness.
Círculos de Mujeres (CMA):
A.M.A. works with cirlces of women in five communities, which include Espumpuja in the indigenous are of Mam; Xeabaj in Santa Catarina Ixtahucan Solola; Tierra Colorada Alta and Chucavioc in the valley of Palajunoj; and Cantel in the area of k'icheSobre. Each group works on five different themes: Self Esteem, Health, Micro Enterprise and Civic participation.
