Philosophy:
Our philosophy takes root in the spiritual teachings of our ancestors. While we do not promote any particular religious creed, we do help strengthen religious teachings that we deem relevant and important to our mission. We see our work at A.M.A. not as a job, but rather as a calling to better the lives of others. We have two philosophical principals:
1. Each one of us has the duty to better serve mankind. As stated in The Popul Vuh, sacred text of the Mayans: “May all of us rise above with not one of us left behind.”
2. We believe in the power of hope, which focuses not on problems but opportunities.
Methodology:
Our methodology is designed to transform lives and foster small group dynamics with techniques borrowed from popular education. We organize our community work into weekly gatherings of groups of 8-12 women, in which we build mutual support and group consolidation. These gatherings also give us time to develop local leadership and identify individuals eligible for advanced training programs.
